Repairing and Rebuilding Relationships

Women’s Family Therapy at New Day Recovery Center
Our relationships with our loved ones are an important part of who we are. And the unfortunate truth is that addiction can cause harm to everyone involved and strain or damage those relationships.
That’s why we offer family therapy and education as part of our program. As you work in recovery to repair your relationship with yourself, it’s critical to also work on your support network — and make sure your loved ones are supported as well.

The Role of Family in Addiction Recovery
When in recovery from addiction, it’s important to have a support network of people who know where you’ve been and where you want to go. This often involves making amends with those who may have caused you difficulty in the past — or have been hurt by your actions along the way.
Our family therapy and education can open the conversation with loved ones about how addiction has impacted all involved, and clear the air for healing. When both sides are committed, this process can help you build a positive, supportive future with family and friends — people who can support you through the good and the tough parts of recovery. When you and your family are ready, we’ll be here to guide you.

Topics Covered in Family Therapy

This type of counseling, also called family-focused therapy, aims to reform relationships. This approach addresses family history, trauma, function, and communication, so everyone can be flexible and understanding through future difficulties. Focused therapy is conducted through one-on-one work with a dedicated counselor, and sessions involving your family members.

Many things can fall by the wayside while you’re battling a substance use disorder, especially close relationships. That’s why we make sure you have the space to mend ties with those you care for the most. Through open channels of dialogue and therapeutic tools, you and your family can both learn to speak honestly and forgive one another.

An important part of our family therapy is bringing your loved ones up to speed. Our specialists explain to your family how addiction impacts your behavior toward them, and how that, while you haven’t always been in control of your actions, their support can make a major difference as you work to rebuild. We’ll teach them how to be there for you, help you, make accommodations, establish hard boundaries, and identify signs of relapse.
